If you are a female experiencing problems with your pelvic health, or urinary or bowel function, your doctor may refer you to a physiotherapist specialising in female pelvic health issues. These physiotherapists are chartered professionals who specialise in diagnosing and treating conditions related to the pelvic region, and urinary and bowel systems.

Common reasons for referral to a physiotherapist specialising in female pelvic health issues include urinary incontinence, bowel dysfunction, pelvic pain, and postpartum rehabilitation. They can also provide preventive care, such as pelvic floor muscle training.

During your appointment with a physiotherapist specialising in female pelvic health issues, they will conduct a thorough examination of your pelvic region, and urinary and bowel systems, and develop a personalised treatment plan. Treatment may involve pelvic floor muscle training, biofeedback, or manual therapy.

Why I might be referred

Disorders affecting female pelvic health can lead to a variety of symptoms. These include pain, stress, inflammation, and discomfort. These symptoms may mean that you find it difficult to do everyday activities like urination and physical activities. You may be referred to a Blackrock Health hospital by your GP if you have tried other forms of treatment and are not seeing results.

Not every procedure is available in all our hospitals. Please check with your preferred location to confirm that the treatment you seek is carried out there.
