Emergency Department

Mon – Fri8am to 5pm

Sat, Sun & Bank Holidays10am to 5pm

Please be advised that our Emergency Department will be closed on the 25th and 26th December but will reopen on Tuesday 27th December.

As Tuesday 27th December and Monday 2nd January are Bank Holidays the Emergency Department will be open at 10am on these days.

Season’s Greetings from all at the Emergency Department

Our Emergency Department is a rapid access service run by Consultants. Dr. David Foley is our Consultant in Emergency Medicine. This service is provided 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday and from 10am to 5pm on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays. Enquiries can be made to the Hermitage Medical Clinic Emergency Department at (01) 6459016.

Patients presenting with a broad range of conditions including Cardiology, General Surgery, Medical, Orthopaedic and Urology will be seen in the first instance by a Consultant in Emergency Medicine. Our new department will facilitate both GP and on occasion direct referrals. If further specialist care and or admission are required this will be provided to all patients requiring same.

Emergency department

The Emergency Department will offer a dedicated GP phone-line which will be manned by an Emergency Nurse to facilitate direct referrals and discussion of individual cases. We will also endeavour to communicate the outcome of each patient’s visit to the referring GP the following day. This can be done by phone, fax or email and the department will work with each GP to tailor this response to accommodate the need of their individual practices.

How much will it cost?
All patients presenting to the Emergency Department will be charged €120 regardless of their insurance cover. Additional tests such as bloods and x-rays will be extra (for individual rates please consult our Emergency Department administrator at 01-6459016)

Should a patient be admitted, then the Health Insurer may cover all costs EXCEPT the initial €120 consultation fee.

Should a patient need to undergo a daycare procedure such as Plaster of Paris application or wound suturing, the patient will be liable for the €120 fee but the Health Insurer may cover other costs involved in the consultation i.e x-rays, crutches, plastering, joint aspiration etc.

The patient may still be able to reclaim the €120 fee as an outpatient expense subject to terms of their health insurance and/or via their MED 1 form from the Revenue Commissioners. It is imperative that the patient contacts their Health Insurer to clarify their coverage. The hospital bears no responsibility in this regard, and the patient is liable for any shortfall, or excess, not covered by their individual Health Insurance Plan.

Self Referrals
If you are a self referral, we would be grateful if you could fill in this form and produce it on arrival at the Hermitage Emergency Department.
