Mr. Burke was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Spinal Surgeon in Edinburgh in 2005. He worked in Edinburgh for four years undertaking a wide variety of spinal procedures and further developed his specialist interest in the management of degenerative lumbar spine pathologies. Mr. Burke returned to Ireland in 2009 to work in full time private practice. He specialises in both conservative and operative management of low back pain and sciatica due to degenerative lumbar spine disorders. He routinely uses minimally invasive surgical techniques. Mr. Burke is a specialist spinal surgeon and confines his practice to spinal surgery only.

Mr. Burke completed his undergraduate training in University College Dublin in 1992, was appointed to the Dublin surgical training scheme and was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1996. He subsequently was appointed to the orthopaedic registrar scheme followed by the post of special lecturer in Orthopaedics in UCD/Mater Hospital/National Spinal Injuries Unit, where he undertook research on the role of cytokines in lumbar intervertebral disc pathology for which he was awarded his Master of Surgery degree.

He did his specialist registrar training in trauma and orthopaedics in Newcastle Upon Tyne where he further developed his interest and expertise in the management of spinal disorders. Mr. Burke subsequently did a Neuro-Orthopaedic Spinal Fellowship in Adelaide Australia.
